Shule Academic Programs

Early Childhood Education (ECD) | Primary | Secondary Education

Based on our Educational Aims, Shule equips students to function in a rapidly changing world. We integrate our academic programs and the co-curricular programs for the benefit of all aspects of student learning.
Our Academic Curriculum details what all students in Pre-Kindergarten to High-school are expected to know and be able to do in all subject areas.

It is designed to enable teachers to make connections across subjects, and to develop programming which accommodates a range of student needs. Equally important is the Shule Co-Curricular Program, which provides a structure for experiences that reinforce the curriculum and extend learning through exploration, character building, community engagement, and the pursuit of individual passions.

Students are prepared for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (K.C.P.E.) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E.) national examinations at the end of primary and secondary courses respectively. The School is well-equipped to meet all the modern requirements of a balanced education. It has regularly ranked among the top ten schools in the country in public examinations.

Our Early childhood education programs focuses on children’s learning through play. This program is centered on the “power of play“. Play meets the Physical, Intellectual, Language, Emotional and Social needs (PILES) of children. Our structured approach aims to involve children in acquiring competence via learning through discovery. The five developmental domains of childhood development we focus on are:

  • Physical: how well a child is developing physically, including eyesight and motor skills
  • Social: interactions with others Social development involves pupils understanding their responsibilities and rights as members of families and communities as well as ability to relate to others and to work with others.
  • Emotional: creating emotional connections and developing self-confidence.
  • Language: how well a child communicates, including how they present their feelings and emotions.
  • Cognitive skills: how children organise information, problem solving, creativity, imagination and memory.
  • Spiritual: the development of a person’s religious views; focussing on the growth of their sense of self, potential, strengths and weaknesses, right and wrong and will to achieve.

Before joining primary school, children aged between three and six are required to attend pre-primary for one or two years. The main objective is to cater to the total development of a child, including the physical, spiritual, social and mental growth, brought about through formal and informal interaction with the parents and the community.

All our curricular and co-curricular programs in the Primary school aim to fulfil the Shule Mission, Vision and Educational Aims. In order to Primary middle school students for a rapidly changing world, we provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to take responsibility for their lives, to address life’s challenges, to become responsible citizens and to be creators of knowledge.

Primary school is the first phase of the 8-4-4 education system and serves students between the ages of six and fourteen. The main purpose of primary education is to prepare students to participate in the social, political and economic well being of the country and prepare them to be global citizens. Primary education is universal and free but not compulsory. A major goal of primary school education is to develop self-expression, self-discipline and self-reliance, while at the same time providing a rounded education experience.

The primary school years are split into what they call Standard One through to Standard Eight. At the end of Standard Eight the students sit the Kenyan Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) , the results of which are used to determine placement at secondary school.

Candidates are examined in five subjects: Kiswahili, English, Science and Agriculture, Mathematics and Social Studies.

Based on the 8-4-4 curricular and co-curricular, our high school programs aim to fulfil the Shule mission, vision and educational aims. In order to prepare high school students for a rapidly changing world, we offer a course of study that will build on the foundation they acquired in their primary school years as well as prepare them to address life’s challenges and to become responsible citizens.
